The older Mader FD's have aluminum plates embedded in the deck structure where the stainless steel mounting bolts attach. We all know what happens when stainless steel and aluminum get together.

The traveler was removed, and new inspection ports installed. With nice big holes in the deck, access was given to the under deck area where the corroded plates could be accessed.

Some of the plates were easily removed with vacuum cleaner, while the rest had to be chiseled free.

New G10 plates were epoxy’d in place under the deck.

The deck damage and delamination was repaired, and a nice looking carbon fiber “bandage” applied over the top to hide the repairs.

A new traveler car was fitted, and the system reassembled.

Good as new – or better.
